![]() Alta Vista Baptist Church HistoryOn February 19, 1938, eighteen members of Manchester Baptist Church met in a home in Alta Vista Acres for the express purpose of beginning a Sunday School Mission. The little mission grew steadily until on May 28, 1939 at 3:00 p.m. a decision was made to establish a new Southern Baptist Church in Alta Vista Acres. Its fifteen charter members adopted the name Alta Vista Baptist Church. The name Alta Vista means "looking up" or "high vision", and has proven over the years to be an appropriate name indeed. For throughout her 60 years of ministry in this community, Alta Vista has know prosperity and pain, split and spender, but through it all, God has reserved unto himself a faithful remnant of praying saints. Men and women who no matter what, have kept "looking up" to Him. Men and women with a "high vision" of seeing God's glory manifested in this community through the ministry of this church. Today that legacy continues as now more that ever before, we here at Alta Vista are "looking up" to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. To see him open the windows of heaven and pour out such and anointing that we will soon see the greatest revival this church or even this city has ever known. We have a "high vision" of what the Lord wants us to accomplish in this community and in the world through the ministry of this church! May God's grace and mercy be upon you as you worship with us, may his Holy Spirit speak to your hearts and may Jesus Christ be exalted! He provides you answers to live by! |
