Jesus said in Mark 3:29 "But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation." Does that mean that anyone who ever curses will go to Hell? The answer is consistent the rest of the Bible. If you trust Jesus for your salvation by his death on the cross, and you have made him the Lord of your life, the answer is no. If you are not following Jesus as your Lord, the answer is yes. If we walk with Jesus and confess our sin to him, he is faithful to forgive us our sin and cleanse us (1 John 1:7-9). However, we must confess our sin, and we must be walking in the light of Jesus, he is the only way to eternal life (John 14:6). |
It is those who do what Jesus wants, who will enter into Heaven, and those who do whatever they want that will spend an eternity in damnation (Matthew 7:21). In order to understand the blasphemy Jesus speaks of, you must look at the story told in Mark 3:20-30. The scribes had just tried to trick Jesus into healing a man on Sunday. Jesus did heal the man, so the scribes riled up a crowd to stone Jesus and his disciples for working on Sunday, in effect breaking the law. Then the scribes, with the crowd behind them called Jesus "Satan", to which Jesus rebuked them. Jesus countered their accusation with logic, and cautioned them never to call God Satan, because that was blasphemy and would endanger their salvation. |
He told them that sins could be forgiven for his followers, but for those who called him the devil, they might well face eternal damnation.
All sins can be forgiven: drugs, alcohol, adultery, even murder can all be forgiven by Jesus. However, unbelief, that is.. to not believe he is who he said he was ... is necessary for forgiveness. You must believe in him to accept his forgiveness which is given freely (Romans 3:23-24). The danger in this life is to not trust Jesus Christ as our savior, to not believe that he died for our sins to make a way to eternal life for each of us!
