Financial problems are said to be the number one cause for divorce. Financial problems can cause us to lose our peace of mind. Financial problems can make us sick. Financial problems even cause people to lose their lives. Financial problems are not limited to poverty. Those with money quite often end up with money problems. |
In fact, he told us it was very difficult for a rich man to get into heaven (Matthew 19:23-27). He told us that "to whom much is given, much is expected" (Luke 12:41-48).
At first, Jesus' way of regarding money may seem exactly opposite of what we have learned in our society today. But why do we seek to have more money and possessions anyway? Don't we really want peace in our lives? Don't we want security from fear? Don't we really want joy in our lives, to be loved and accepted? However, Jesus is the way, the truth, and the light. The fruits of His way are what we really seek. He will provide for all of our needs according to His will (Philippians 4:19). But we must be living right, the Bible teaches us to seek first the kingdom of God (Matthew 6:33). The bible provides us a lot of guidance in how to run our finances so that we are living right, and can experience the fruits that Jesus will give us. |
Since we reap what we sow in this world, giving is essential to financial success. Give, and it shall be given unto you... with the same measure that you give, it shall be given back to you (Luke 6:38). But your gifts must be pure of heart, not grudgingly, because God loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:6-8). Beware of "get rich quick" propositions, because they are losing propositions. Those who are diligent will prosper (Proverbs 13:11). Don't take on debt (Romans 13:8) , but rather save for your needs with wisdom (Proverbs 24:3-4). Don't save money just because you like having money (Matthew 6:20-21). Don't co-sign loans, you are asking for trouble (Proverbs 6:1-5). And above all else, you must realize that God is in control. He makes both the rich and the poor (Proverbs 22:2). Everything belongs to Him (Job 41:11). |
