"Our health is a precious gift.
It is better to have your health, than the best health insurance available!
Modern science is just learning that what you eat alone does not make you healthy,
but rather it is what is eating you that affects your health the most."

Our health is a precious gift. It is better to have your health, than the best health insurance available! Modern science is just learning that what you eat alone does not make you healthy, but rather it is what is "eating" you that affects your health the most. Jesus summed this up 2000 years ago when He taught us that it is not what goes in us that defiles us, but what comes out of us that defiles us. He further gave us examples of these things that cause our health to fail: evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance, folly (Mark 7:1-23).

In Truth, our health which is so important to us all, is really a product of what goes on inside us. The light of truth shows us proper priorities for maintaining our health, and the first priority is living according to God's plan for us. The biblical truths of a healthy diet are not at all false, but Jesus just put them in a proper order of precedence. Life is what is most important (Matthew 6:25).

Food or exercise does not bring us closer to God (1 Corinthians 8:8). Whatever our diet or lifestyle, the most important thing is that we not cause discord with God, our family, or our friends because of what we eat or drink (Romans 14:1-23).

The concept of health food is nothing new. The bible teaches us to purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit (2 Corinthians 7:1).

The old testament laws provided clear rules as to what was healthy and what was not healthy for us. The 1990's low fat diet is actually very biblical. The Bible tells us not to eat fat or blood (Leviticus 3:17). Don't eat too many sweets (Proverbs 25:16). Avoid alcohol and especially drunkenness (Proverbs 31:4-6). In the days of creation fruits and vegetables were provided to man for food (Genesis 1:29), and after the flood all living creatures were given to man to be food (Genesis 9:3).

We are warned that in later times deceiving spirits will order us to abstain from eating certain foods (meats) (1 Timothy 4:3). The Bible teaches us that everything God created is good to eat if it is received with thanksgiving and consecrated with prayer (1 Timothy 4:4). This is why Christians pray a blessing on their food. As Christians we are free from worry over what to eat, or not eat. We are not bound by the laws of clean and unclean foods (Mark 7:19). Jesus told us that eternal life is what is important, and living well will bring us good health.

God wants us to be in good health: "Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well." (3 John 1:2 NIV). But God's plan for health begins with our soul.

When our soul is healthy, so will we be healthy.
