Love. The greatest commandment God ever gave us.

What is love? Many books have been written on love, and how to love each other. Often the simple truths are the most difficult to understand. The truth about love is simple, but very profound and life changing. God is Love (1 John 4:8).

When we say that we love someone, perhaps we mean that we care for them dearly. Perhaps we mean that we feel close to them. But real love is much more than feelings. Love is to be willing to lay down your life for that person. Jesus said "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" (John 15:13 NIV).

That is God's definition of love. We are all supposed to love each other, just like Jesus loved us ... by laying down his life for us (John 15:12). We are called to be a living sacrifice, loving each other day in, and day out (Romans 12:1). That calling is much more difficult. It involves patience, kindness, forgiveness, and humility (1 Corinthians 13:4-7). None of us are up to that calling.

Who can always be self-less, always kind, never rude? There is only one way to love, and that is to call on the ultimate source of Love ... Jesus (John 15:9).

But if we don't love, we don't know God. God showed us His love by dying for us, so that we could live and love (1 John 4:7-21). The Bible teaches that those who have been forgiven much, love much. It is because we are forgiven that we can forgive. It is because we are loved that we can love. The Lord has given his love to us, in order that He might reveal His love through us. Trust in His love and see what a difference it will make in you!

Do you know God? The bible says that if we love, then we know God.
